Bono's Product (RED) probably got the most publicity this year due to his rock star status, but I've come across a number of companies or products this year that are trying to sell themselves on the premise of "if you're going to shop anyway, you might as well buy products that donate money to causes you care about." Inc. Magazine has several features available online related to that concept:
- Saving the World One Purchase at a Time
- 10 Ways to Give Without Giving (slideshow)
- The Green 50 (slideshow)
- 23 Products That Will Save the Planet (slideshow)
While browsing Inc.'s web site, I learned about GoodSearch, a Yahoo! based search engine that gives 50% of revenues to the charity of your choice. It's a direct competitor to everyclick, an ask.com powered search engine that defaults to UK results. If I'm doing the math correctly, each search at everyclick generates $0.04 for your favorite charity, while GoodSearch estimates that $0.01 goes to your favorite charity per search.
